1968 David Arnebeck Begins Boxing
David Arnebeck's father, Wallace Arnebeck, was a state boxing champion. Wallace taught David how to box starting with "play boxing" at a very young age. Wallace would continue to spar David in boxing for the next 14 years up until he was approximately 18 years old. Wallace Arnebeck taught the "scientific" approach to boxing where the strategy was never to get hit using good footwork and good technque. Click here for more info, photos and video.
1980 David Arnebeck Begins Chi Kung Kung Fu
In the early part of 1980, at age 15, David Arnebeck enrolled into Chi Kung Kung Fu Training under Sifu Jeff Carlson. Mr. Carlson trained in many different martial arts but emphasized Chi Kung training. Carlson learned Chi Kung under Master Lily Siou in Hawaii who is also the author of the Chi Kung book Mastering The Unseen Life Force. David Arnebeck eventually would become Carlson's private student with the majority of training occurring at Carlson's residence. At a very young age Mr. Arnebeck was exposed to the value of meditation, proper breathing, relaxation during movement, flexibility training, and the Chinese concepts of energy and healing. 1980 David Arnebeck Begins Teaching Martial Arts
In 1980 Eric Mudget confronted David Arnebeck in the high school hallway...
"I hear you know martial arts?" said Mudget.
"Yes." replied Arnebeck.
"I want to learn. Can you teach me?" requested Mudget.
"Sure." replied Arnebeck.
... and after that simple beginning, David Arnebeck has been teaching martial arts ever since. Eventually, after continuing his training under different masters and styles, David Arnebeck re-branded his teachings and school as the Warrior's Cove Martial Arts & Fitness Gyms in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul Minnesota area teaching thousands of members. 1982 Minnesota Tang Soo Do Demo Team
At 16 years old, and after extensive training in Boxing, Karate, Kobudo and Kung Fu, David Arnebeck enrolled into the martial art of Tang Soo Do in July 1981. Summer 1982: David Arnebeck took part in the Minnesota Tang Soo Do Demo Team to help promote his instructor's gym, as well as spread word of the art in northern Minnesota. This was before Mr. Arnebeck was promoted to Tang Soo Do Black Belt*, so he is wearing a Red Belt, which in traditional Tang Soo Do is the rank just prior to Black Belt. 1982 David Arnebeck Black Belt Test
October 31, 1982 David Arnebeck tested for Tang Soo Do Black Belt under Master Lawrence Seiberlich and a testing board of several other Senior Black Belts including Jeff Goodwin, Bryan Van Gorp, Robert Willis and Charlotte Grove. The test took place in Saint Paul Mn. According to Master Seiberlich, David Arnebeck was one of only 5 individuals in the history of the US Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan to achieve Black Belt in 15 months. This was due, in part, from extensive Boxing, Karate, Kobudo and Kung Fu training prior to starting Tang Soo Do in 1981. 1982 International Tang Soo Do Championships
November 20-21, 1982: After only 16 months of training in the martial art of Tang Soo Do, and only 1 month after achieving his Tang Soo Do Black Belt*, David Arnebeck competed in the International Tang Soo Do Championships held at Resorts International in Atlantic City NJ. Teams from many countries traveled to compete. Mr. Arnebeck won 3rd Place in the individual Black Belt sparring, and was part of the Region 7 USA Team that took 2nd. 1983 Tang Soo Do Grandchampion
November 5th, 1983 San Diego California. David Arnebeck wins the National Tang Soo Do Black Belt Sparring Championships for both the Lightweight Division and the overall Open Weight Division after facing both the Heavyweight Champion and Middleweight Champion. David Arnebeck was 19 years old and a 2nd Degree Black Belt* in Tang Soo Do at the time. Click here for more info and photos.
1983 David Arnebeck begins Wing Chun Kung Fu Training
December 1983 Mr. Arnebeck began Wing Chun Kung Fu training with Sifu Robert Larson, who learned Wing Chun from Jimmy Chan. Mr. Chan was the student of Grandmaster Tsui Sheung Tin (the 3rd student of Grandmaster Ip Man). Arnebeck continued making the 3 hour round trip drive twice a week to continue his Wing Chun training under Mr. Larson. Eventually Arnebeck moved to Duluth MN and continued training in the art. David Arnebeck incorporated elements of the Wing Chun system that are easily applied into the MMA training at the Warrior's Cove. Click here form more info and photos.
1989 Private Investigator
David Arnebeck was a private investigator for 9 years working hundreds of cases in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. David Arnebeck eventually was promoted to Head of Operations for the Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Southern Minnesota region for his firm. In 1998 the combined workload of private investigation along with the continued growth of his martial arts gym, the Warrior's Cove, Arnebeck decided to submit his resignation in order to devote his full time and energy into working with his students. The Warrior's Cove Gyms continued to grow into the leading organization providing reality based MMA, Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Fitness Kickboxing,Kids and Family Classes, Free Women's Self-Defense and much more, for the Minneapolis and Saint Paul MN area. 1993 MMA Training BEFORE the UFC!
It was July 30th, 1993. After 25 years of cross-training [MMA] in various martial arts including Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Chi Kung Kung Fu and Tang Soo Do, David Arnebeck received the official invitation for master level training and testing under, Hun Chul Hwang, at the Tang Soo Do USA Headquarters in New Jersey. Although Mr. Arnebeck had achieved significant success in Tang Soo Do, including winning the Tang Soo Do National Black Belt Sparring Championships, he decided to refocus on the essence of reality based martial art training (MMA) as defined by the legendary warriors such as Sun Tzu, the Shaolin, Miyamoto Musashi and more recently, Bruce Lee. 1996 David Arnebeck Begins Training with Rickson Gracie
David Arnebeck sought out Rickson Gracie and began training with him starting at his Chicago Seminar May 18-21 1996. From that day forward, David Arnebeck continued to train with Rickson every chance he could get. He would eventually train privately with Rickson at his home for weeks at a time, in the Pacific Palasades in California. He would also train at Rickson's schools in Los Angeles (Pico, Sunset and Wilshire gyms), and he would tour with Rickson when he would give Seminars in the United States and Canada. 2001 Glia High IQ Society
On February 19, 2001 David Arnebeck was tested by Robert Lato with confirmation and norming by Paul Coojimans with IQ at 153 gaining entrance into the Glia High IQ Society (member #80). Glia's entrance requirement is at the 99.9 percentile. For those familiar with high iq societies, Mensa International is known as the most popular with entrance requirements at approximately IQ 130 (98th percentile). Click here for more info and photos.
2010 Rickson Gracie Promotes David Arnebeck to Black Belt

2015 Rickson Gracie Promotes David Arnebeck to 2nd Degree Black Belt
